It’s a card! It’s a gift! It’s both! I used one of Lil’ Inker Designs‘ newest releases, Holly Jolly Die & Stamp Set, to create a card with a removable ornament. It’s a card for this year and an ornament for many years to come! It’s a great way to send a small gift that doesn’t break the bank.

Isn’t that the sweetest little felt tree? I die cut two trees and two trunks, stitched around the trunk and zig-zagged down the centre of the tree after inserting the twine hoop. Here’s how the card came together:

I punched a slit at the top of the white panel, pushed the twine loop through to hold the ornament on the card and adhered the white panel to the card base with foam tape. The recipient can just pull the ornament through the slit and off the card for a keepsake.

The tree is embellished with the large berries from the Holly Jolly Die & Stamp Set and accented with clear rhinestones. The beautiful felt is from Felt on the Fly, one of my newest finds. What’s not to love about a great product and fantastic customer service? I can’t wait to make more of these!

  1. OMG!!!! I am so inspired to make a whole bunch of these!!! What FANTASTIC little gifties!!! I love Christmas ornaments so this is so right up my alley!!! SUPER idea!!!!

  2. Oh, what a very, very, very cool idea! I love the felty tree all stitched up and blinged out. Hanging it on the tree would just be like the icing on the cake…or, um, the snow on the branches? Hmm…I'll work on my similes….

  3. Brilliant! Love how the ornament slips so easily off the card without wrecking either one. Also brilliant — putting the rhinestones off-centre, they catch the eye so much more that way.

  4. Love this! Ornament cards are one of my favourite little gifts for teachers & aides at the holidays, but I never thought of doing them up out of something other than paper 🙂 (now to find some felt….hmmm….I can buy more stuff, right? lol)

  5. Thanks for visiting my blog Emily! Your work is amazing, inspiring and I am a huge fan!! Love your little felt tree, thanks for the deets and the fabulous inspiration!!
    Hugs,

  6. Dear God thank you for creating such a wonderfully talented artist! If she wasn’t,our lives it would be less full of eye candy and that would be a great loss! I love this!

  7. Amazing idea, Em! I pinned this to my Pinterest board – hope you don't mind! This would be so great to do for my in-law family. All the SIL's and my MIL take turns each year with something crafty for everybody. This is perfect!
