My best friend’s son is turning four tomorrow and he loves pirate-anything so I thought it would be fun to cut up a lot of Echo Park’s Little Boy Collection and make this card for him. This is a lot of layers, much more than my usual style, but I had so much fun with it.

It’s always nice to work outside of clean and simple once in a while. The design may not be perfect but sometimes it’s nice to let go and not worry about that. All the stamps and dies used on this card are by Papertrey Ink and the Lemondrop baker’s twine is from The Twinery. I used a quadruple knot and double string.

Surprise! I even decorated the inside. I thought the ‘brave’ sentiment would go really well with the pirate theme and the ‘4’ looks like a ship, doesn’t it? The waves are hand-cut and I left a lot of white space because I tend to write novels inside my cards. 🙂

I hope you’re enjoying a lovely fall weekend!

  1. this is so fabulous!!! i love all the layers on the front- they work together perfectly, and the twine lends a very nautical feel… the waves inside are great and i love the "ship" 4 😀

  2. Ahh…I thought you had two cards and then I kept reading to see that you had decorated the inside. You rock coloring, CAS and paper…you stink! Just kidding…I'm jealous 🙂 You are so talented Emily!

  3. Wow, if someone didn't read carefully, they might think you'd made two cards! The inside could definitely stand on its own as a CAS card. What a great sentiment, too. The outside is awesome, and I love the sailboat paper!

  4. Shiver me timbers, this here be a mighty ship-shape card! You should try "not CAS" more often because I'm loving how you mixed all the patterns and colors!

    Polly want a cracker!

(I had to get all of my pirate-speak out before moving on the next blog!)

  5. I was totally gonna go all pirate-speak on you, but Meg beat me to it!

Love all the patterns and colors, and the 4 as a ship is the perfect finishing touch! How fun for the kiddo, too.

  6. Oh gosh is this CUTE! ILOVE the sailboat papers you found and how you die cut the panel and stamped the cute little pirate! The inside is genius w/ the waves and big number 4. I so need to do something like this for my son's next bday- he will be TEN and STILL loves Pirates!

  8. Oh my goodness…that is the CUTEST card ever! I love the layers…not too many, but it really shows off the patterned paper and mix of colors. The inside is brilliant–love the sentiment with the card!!
