Wow, this month is flying by! This is my third week posting as the October Guest Designer for Paper Smooches and I have two cards to share with you today. Both cards are holiday-inspired. The first one is for Halloween even though, originally, I was going to use the sentiment ‘Feel Better Soon’ from Chit Chat. LOL I was going to give it to my son who’s been sick but I decided to save it for Halloween since we’ve been having so much fun watching the ever busy squirrels in the yard. My squirrel is up to no good. I mean, just look at the expression on his face! I wonder what he’s boiling in that cauldron. Doesn’t the spider look petrified at the thought of being thrown in there? I just love creating little stories in a card.

The spider, web, sentiment and potion bottle are from Halloweenies. I masked both the spider and potion bottle into the squirrel’s hand. The spider’s legs were too difficult to cut around so I cut it off completely and stamped it separately on to the background. I hope it still looks like the squirrel’s holding the spider! Since the squirrel’s hind legs are showing, I made him a chair with the top of the telephone poles from Hang Ups. The bubbling cauldron is made from paper piecing one of the cups from Hot Concoctions.

Next I made a winter holiday card. I stamped a little penguin couple using the penguin from My Peeps. Aren’t they adorable? I borrowed the hat and scarf from Swanky Snowdudes. I shortened the scarf to fit the penguin. The sentiment is a combination of ‘Season’s Greetings’ from Swanky Snowdudes and ‘How Tweet of You’ from My Peeps. I really like this card and I think it may be the design for my Christmas cards!

  1. LOL! That cheeky little squirrel is hilarious! Love all the details in the card (the masking the chair, the little web at the top, the fab patterned paper). It's brilliant! And those little penguins are super cute – love the mixed greeting too.

  2. Oh My ! Emily, I am at a loss of words at how clever you have been with these awesome stamps 🙂 Love these cards way beyond words 😀

  3. Woehoe!! I'm so happy!! Thanks so much Emily and Paper Smooches!!! I sent you an email! And your first card shows exactly why you are a true inspiration for these stamps! You know exactly which elements to use to make such a fun card!! That's just genius!!! Love the potion bottle he's holding! And those penguins are so cute together!!!

  4. Totally love the Halloween card! I love when you can use stamps in new ways, like the coffee cup as a cauldron! So clever. Perpetual Bliss is on my Paper Smooches wishlist so thanks for a chance to win it! Thanks for sharing your fabulous creations!!!

  5. Fantastic cards! The squirrel holding the potion and spider is pure genius (; And I love how you combined the two greetings on the penguin card – they are perfect together! I'm curious, though: did you just write in the "-ings" part of "tweetings"? Inspiring! Thanks for sharing.

  6. Gosh; these are great looking cards. I'm still learning how to use stamps and all the help I can get is much appreciated. I love how these stamps are hand drawn so it gives a handmade card even more personality vs the cookie cutter cards you see in the stores. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Your cards are absolutely AWESOME Emily!!! I especially LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the top one – so super creative! PS couldn't have picked a better guest designer (-:
Thanks for great inspiration – as always!

  8. Oh, that top card is Soooooooooooooooo creative, Emily. I love the story you made up to go with it and all of your attention to detail!! And you are so clever with your PS images. The penguins are adorable, too!

  9. Yay! for Wendy 🙂
Poor spider is just terrified! Squirrels are always up to no good, aren't they? Any rodent has no business being that cute. It can't bode well.
I hope your little man is feeling better soon – it's that time of year, right? Sniffle.
I think that penguin card is adorable, and it looks like a perfect choice for making lots!
I think Perpetual Bliss might be one of my fave PS sets I've seen yet….fun o'clock indeed 😉

  10. Your Halloween card just cracks me up! That demented squirrel is hilarious and you were so clever to add that potion bottle and spider and the way you got creative with all the different sets is inspiring! It's going to make me look at my stamp sets in a new way!

  11. You really made me smile…making the cheeky squirrel into a trainee wizard! You have the most amazing ideas Emily 🙂
I adore the two penguins too.
I have the Perpetual bliss stamp set so count me out of the draw 🙂

  13. Total wow on these two cards, Emily! The first one is so much fun, right down to the squirrel's chair. Trust you to have that kind of attention to detail. The second card is Christmas brilliance! Cute penguins, especially dressed up the way you have them!

  14. OMG, the Halloween card is so brilliant! I love how you made the scene–wow!! The penguins are super adorable. The way you got all of the accessories to fit as too cool!! (no pun intended.) You are rocking the PS GDT!!

Thanks so much for the chance to win.. I don't have that set..hugs

  18. Your cards are so much fun! Not sure if I like the scared looking spider or the cute little penguins the best! I really do like to do the play on words with sentiments, so I though the "Seasons Tweetings" was very cute too!

  19. Aha! a Crazy Squirrel. Love him. And the penguins are adorable!! Perfectly squat and happy. Definitely worth a finalist spot for your Christmas card.

  20. Very cute cards. I hope by now your son is feeling better. That little squirrel is too fun and I love the little penguins. They are my downfall this year. I had to get some penguin stamps myself this year!

  21. Ah, two verrrry cute cards! My willpower against buying new stamps is…slowly….becoming…..weaker…

Love all the bits you put together to make Evil Squirrel (including the spider which totally fooled me). I can definitely see those penguins being your card this year (except now all I see is two VW buses with legs. 🙂 ).
