I made this card to inspire you to play along in the current Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge! Isn’t the inspiration photo cute? I was inspired by the vegetable theme of the tomatoes and/or pumpkins, as well as the colours and wonderful textures. I stamped Vegtastic and the pumpkin from Halloweenies with black ink on coloured cardstock. I cut out all the parts and textured some of them with different impression plates. Then I assembled the vegetables, grouped them and stamped the sentiment. I love all those cute little faces!

This challenge runs until October 19th which gives you one more week to play. Click HERE or on the inspiration photo for all the details. If you don’t have any Paper Smooches stamps, Kim provides a free image and sentiment every month. You can find this month’s freebies HERE. We’d love for you to play along with us every month, twice a month. I look forward to seeing your projects!

Well, you all know that my husband is two-and-a-half weeks late making my birthday card. Yesterday, I questioned him about it. :Þ So while I was finishing up this card, my husband came downstairs and started going through my Paper Smooches stamps! Here’s how the conversation went:

“Can I look at your stamps?”
“Sure.”

I hear flipping and shuffling. A minute later, he puts them back.

“There are more over here.”
“No, that’s okay. I know what I’m going to use.”

While I photograph my card, I see him going through my cardstock and picking up the little bits of scrap I’ve left on the table.

“Can I use your stamps to do some stamping?”
“Sure, I’m going upstairs to watch Criminal Minds.”
“Which black ink do I use?”
“Are you colouring?”
“No.”
“Then use this one.”

One hour later, he comes upstairs at the end of the episode, sits down on the sofa and puts the card down next to him. I try very hard not to laugh. The show ends and the credits roll.

“You finished my card in an hour?!” (Remember, he usually takes a week and I rarely finish cards in an hour.)
“Yup. Would you like to see it?”
“Yes!”

I gasped, not because the deer from Santa Paws is so darn cute, and the card itself is simple and sweet but HE USED ALPHADOTS which I never even peeled open!!! Should I be offended?! LOL On the inside, he mockingly wrote in our son’s voice, “Why (did) Baba wait so long to make Mommy’s birthday card?!” Too funny! I can’t believe he used the opening of the largest coffee cup from Hot Concoctions for the shadow. And look at that cute little pink nose he cut out! Ya, I’m pretty shocked in more ways than one. LOL

  1. Hi Emily!

Love your veggies card, but totally love your hubbies card!!!! That deer is so cute! Yep, the little pink nose is perfect and your story about how this card came together, is so funny!! Loved reading it!!! What a fabulous tradition you have here!!! Great, great card!!

    Hugs, Wendy

  2. Both cards are fantastic!! Which worries me kinda… what if the men come and invaded our hobby… then it would become a sport and we would have some stiff competition!!!

  6. Oh, your hubby is so cute! I see perfect fussy cutting must be a family thing in your household! Love the little pink nose and the cup shadow (clever!). Also total HA on inking up your stamps before you did!

  8. Those veggies are fantastically cute and fun, Emily. I love how you arranged them in a big veggie bunch!!! And your story about your hubby's cardmaking? Hilarious. What a fabulous card!!! I get all upset if someone reads one of my magazines before I have a chance to open it up and read it all myself, so I can understand your dilemma about whether or not to get offended by his "unauthorized" Alphadots use!!

  9. LOL!!!! Ok, I know I should write about your super cute card first, but your husband's card is wonderful! You have competition in your own house. Maybe he should enter the sparks challenge ;>) LOVE it!!! What fun!!!

  10. I actually dreamed that my husband made me a card after reading this. I must have a fever, because, um, yeah. Never going to happen. This is too awesome, and I totally lol'ed that he used your Alphadots before you did. I would probably have had a stroke.
