Welcome to Day 2 of Altenew‘s Crafty Friends Blog Hop! I’m so honoured to be joining Altenew and its line-up of amazingly talented crafters, awesome companies and magazines for this special hop to celebrate our love of crafting and blogging. I’ve been making handmade cards as far back as I can remember. My mom always insisted on handmade cards, never store-bought. About seven years ago, when I knew I was going to be a stay-at-home-mom for a few more years, I started blogging and then I ventured into publications, which seems like a whole lifetime ago. Does anyone else really miss the tangible paper crafting magazines?! I would definitely count some of the crafty friends I’ve met in blogland as my best friends. There are a few that I text with every day, not just about crafting but anything and everything. Yup! I love them, they’re awesome and I don’t know what I’d do without them.

In honour of Altenew and this celebration of crafty friends, I made a trio of cards using six different Altenew stamp sets and three coordinating die sets. The moment I saw the Sweet Friend set, I knew I had to have it. I love frames and I knew that I wanted to pair it up with the foxes from Hug Me.

For the first card, I heat embossed the frame in gold, then created a custom sentiment using two different sentiments, one from Crafty Friends and one from Coffee Love. I just changed the period into a comma using a Copic multi-liner.

The spoon, teacup and saucer are also from the Coffee Love set. I created an ombre effect for the second line using Rose Quartz and Puffy Heart inks.

For all of the frames and foxes, I used the same distress ink colours which are all listed below. It’s the difference in embossing powders that changes the look of the frame.

The second card is the only one with a coloured background and I chose the green to coordinate with the watercolours in the images since the frame was so pale. I loved playing with the positions of the foxes in the frames!

The sentiment on this card was created with a line from Hug Me and a partial sentiment from Crafty Friends.

This last card is my favourite of the three. The frame was heat embossed with clear embossing powder over gray pigment ink. At first, I thought it looked dull but the watercolours seem to pop the most of the three frames. Plus, it has a nice rustic, antique look.
I love the three foxes hanging out together – something I always look forward to with my local crafty gals – and the sentiment is so perfect for the setting and this blog hop!

Once again, I used Volcano Lake and Lagoon inks to create the ombre effect on the two-line sentiment, created using phrases from Crafty Friends. It’s a must-have stamp set with endless possibilities!

  1. These cards are so cute. I do miss the crafting magazines. I used to subscribe to cardmaker magazine, and still refer to them on occasion. But now with blogs and hops everywhere it's easier to get inspiration, plus I get to watch utube videos which are super helpful. Thank you for inspiring us.

  2. These cards are soooo Cute! Love how you just changed up a couple of things on each making them unique. I cannot choose a favorite! Thanks for sharing and celebrating crafty friends.

  3. Lovely cards! I love this crafting community and the fact that it can bring people together from all over the world. I have "met" some wonderful friends in places like Florida (USA) and even New Zealand!

  4. Emily, I too miss the days of browsing at my leisure through a good old fashioned paper copy of my fave card magazines. (As a matter of fact, I have kept all of the old copies I bought.)
Your cards are all fantastic, I esp like the "sitting fox"! Its so cute!

  5. I love how you have combined the different sets! Each card is lovely and has just the right touch of whimsicalllity! I really love the Frame dies and you have used them as the perfect finishing touch! TFS!

  6. Super cute critters on these adorable cards! Love the frames surrounding the focal images and that you "crafted" your own sentiment from a couple different ones, so clever!

  7. I love mounting things with 3D foam tape or fun foam like you did with your frames. I think it always adds such a great touch to each card. All three of your cards look great!

  8. I like the frame on the last one too! I am enjoying seeing little bits of lots of great card crafters. I personally didn't start making cards until about 3 years ago–but have dived right in. I need way more skill practice in so many areas, but I love the design process and I love giving hand-made expressions of love and I really love having 2 grandkids who love to create cards too! Thanks so much for the little piece of heart you shared!

  9. Emily, we're not "friends," but I have followed you and been so inspired by you for several years now. I feel I know your heart, even if I don't "know" you, from the kinds of art you do. And I love that you share Damian with us, too. I'm glad to call you a crafty "friend." <3

  10. The foxy friends are adorable and the sentiments are perfect! This two-day hop has been full of crafty inspiration and great stories of friendship. I've enjoyed it.

  11. Your cards are so sweet! I love the way you have mixed and matched the images to create the little scenes and framed them. Adorable!
Thank you so much for sharing. 🙂

  12. Such a cute card, Emily! I love it! I, too, was so sad when the papercrafting magazines went away. But then I found blogland! I have learned so many things & found so much inspiration ! Makes me happy!!

  13. What a fabulous set of cards!! Those frames are beautiful on their own but the embossing and watercolouring elevates them nicely. Thanks for sharing some of your crafty story with us!
