I’m so excited to be part of the 2013 Gallery Idol Contest! I’ve been bouncing off the walls since Friday when I found out that I had made the Top 20. You can see that card here. The challenge for Round 2 was to create a card Defining Dad. I took this opportunity to make a card with for my own Dad with a sentiment that evokes the love and respect that daughters have for their fathers. In my eyes, my Dad has always been a man of great strength and poise. I see it more now that I’m a mother and also because of the health problems that my Dad has to deal with as he ages. I would love to have my Dad’s courage when I’m his age.

I knew I wanted to use the girl silhouette from Mama Elephant’s So Breezy stamp set. I rolled the girl in four different green inks from the bottom up before stamping her. I composed the DAD sentiment using Flashy Letters and added a scripted sentiment from Amuse Studio’s Let’s Be Adventurers. I thought the girl’s pose perfectly mirrored that of the Statue of Liberty. I added a glittery gold die cut star for the flame or, perhaps, a magic wand.

Thank you for all your sweet comments! I would not be in this competition without your friendship and unwavering support. I hope your votes take me to the next round. 🙂

  1. Best of luck, Em! This is a terrific card to celebrate a father. As soon as I saw the girl, I wondered how you'd inked her, so thanks for explaining — she looks so good!

  2. Oh, Emily, I'm so excited for you! I truly adore this card – it is such a perfect example of the unique & talented creations you come up with time & time again! Reading the meaning behind it – and knowing that it's going to your dad – makes me love it even more 🙂 I wish you SO MUCH LUCK!!!

  3. Whoop whoop!! I was so psyched to see your face on the PC blog when they announced the top 20! Your card is fantastic and I love how it's so not a typical dad type card but still totally captures the feelings a girl has for the most important man in her life. Really perfect!

  4. Girl, this is awesome! I especially love the story behind the creativity. It makes this so much more special to know that it was inspired by your love for your dad. Love the way you think, missy – I just wish that I could crawl inside the brilliant mind of yours for five minutes so that I could steal some of your mojo!! No one compares, girlie! Wishing you the best in this and all future rounds!!
