I made this card for the Hero Arts February Contest. It features my interpretation of Sketch #2, falls into the Hello category and uses die cuts. I combined three different Hero Arts sets – Zig Zag, Newspaper Skyline and On the Go Bike – plus five colours of their chalk inks. I’m totally in love with the Hero Arts chalk inks right now and need a couple more to complete my collection. 😉

This is also the first time I’ve made anything new in a week! Trying to find my mojo has been like trying to squeeze water from a cactus. I decided that staring at my new Hero Arts stamps wasn’t going to force my mojo out of winter hibernation so I decided to just ink them up. Even though I am satisfied with the result, this card did not come together easily and I recycled a lot of cardstock in the process. In reality, it took me about four hours to make this card. I knew what stamps I wanted to use. It was the colours and fiddling with the images that took a while. I must’ve stamped that ‘hello’ arrow at least a dozen times in different colours, with and without backgrounds!

I thought this would be a fun card to send to a friend I haven’t talked to in a while as a reminder that even though we lead such busy lives, I am still thinking of her. Why not say hello on the go, right? I hope you like it! I think I will now attempt those other two sketches in the hopes of jumpstarting my mojo. You have five more days to play if you want to join me. 🙂

Well, my husband just popped by and saw this card saying, “Ooohhh, I really like that,” so the card might not be going anywhere now. LOL

  1. I love this card Emily 🙂 I am sorry you are struggling with your mojo, but it kind of makes me feel better that someone as talented as you struggles from time to time. I ALWAYS take a long time to make cards LOL.

  2. ok so NOW you're mojo's back 😉 hehe- and it definitely is! loving all the fabulous layers 🙂
I think we all have our mojo dry spells- my card-making mojo is out the window at the moment, so I switched over to home decor mojo instead hehe 😉

  3. What a great card! Love your take on that sketch, layering the skyline stamp is brilliant! The bright colors are so bold and fun, too! No wonder your hubby likes it, he's got very good taste in cards.

  4. Emily, this card has something special which keeps on bringing me back for another look. I just love how it all works together. I love the bright colours, I love the zig zag background, I love it all. I'm so glad you managed to wrestle your mojo back over a four hour session to make this card! 🙂

  5. Had to pop over from HA Flickr to tell you how much I love this card! Great take on the sketch and I love the oodles of stamps that you combined so effortlessly. Genius!

  6. I just called my local Archiver's to see if they have any of the new Hero Chalk inks…not yet…but I know what you mean about the inks. They are divine! And so is your card! Your patience certainly paid off!

  7. Love how you cut this image up Emily- clever, once again 🙂 May have to "borrow" that idea from you later! The bright colors on kraft look great too.
My heart hasn't really been into it lately either….hope your mojo comes back nice and rested- haha!

  8. Beautiful card – the bright colours are just what we need for this time of the year.

Even when your mojo is stuck, it's still inspiring, but I know how you feel : ).

    Great inspiration once again!

  9. It's not that I'm glad your mojo was stuck, but I'm glad you wrote about it! Sometimes it's intimidating seeing the beautiful things other people create, like they pull it out of thin air, and it's nice to not feel like the only person who struggles now & then.
And a sketch? YIKES! Good for you 🙂 FWIW, I totally love how this card turned out. Mostly because it has a bike, and it's your fault I like bikes now.

  10. This is Perfection! I love the background and the scene you created! I'm glad I'm not the only one that can spend hours trying to make a card.

I need to check out those Hero Arts chalk inks! I just started buying Hero Arts stamps and I LOVE them!

  11. Whoa, You're going to continue using sketches? You must be feeling mojo-deprived. 😛 Okay, just kidding — because if you end up with cards like this one, go for it! The colours are so much fun, and the layering is terrific.

  12. Love how you've chopped up that skyline to add extra dimension and I spotted the chevron bkgd in white on Kraft…..love it, I always forget about white on Kraft!
    Super happy card Emily :0)

  13. While I'm sad for you that your usual spate of creativity isn't flowing smoothly, I AM glad to hear that it sometimes takes hours to make a card! and some "recycling…" I have often wondered if you just get it right the first time, or is there's some hit-and-miss trials going on. Gives us less-creative types hope…Your true fan, C.

  14. It was definitely worth the 4 hours even though I know you must have been going crazy! Love the primary colours against the kraft and that newspaper skyline is awesome! Totally regretting not choosing it as one of my freebies…

  15. All that hard work paid off. Enough to drive a person batty though. Especially when you think you could have done it in just an hour normally. Those are the days I need a drink. Ha. I so love this one Em, it turned out super fab.

  16. Wowzers, this is fabulous! I love the colors, the layers, the way you used that skyline stamp. Mojo, schmojo — might've taken you awhile, but the end result is divine!
