This mummy dog is so not scary. It’s waaay too cute to scare anyone! Can you believe this was a publication reject? Me neither. 😉 I just had to show it to you since Pink Cat Studio is on hiatus for the summer and because I’m super excited about Halloween this year. For the past two years, we took our son trick-or-treating in my parents’ neighbourhood but this year we’ll be in our very own neighbourhood! We went to visit our soon-to-be house last Friday to take some measurements for area rugs, a chandelier, etc. and the current owners told us that we need to make sure we buy at least $100 worth of candy. Last year, they bought $75 worth and ended up having to hand out other things in their house, almost reaching for cans of tuna at one point. Yikes! Does this mean our son will bring home $75 worth of candy? LOL

This card was simple to make despite the layers. I started with a black base, cut a piece of vellum and attached the punched borders to it. Then I used my paper trimmer to create an orange frame which I then stitched on to the card to hold the first two layers in place. The mummy dog was printed, coloured with Copics, fussy cut and adhered with foam tape. This is one of my favourite Pink Cat Studio digis to colour! How ’bout you? Have you gotten into the Halloween spirit yet?

  1. Oh my goodness! Where did you learn to be so good at this!!! This card is totally amazing! I love that digi and that perfect background you made! Superb Emily! I am s happy that you are soon going to be "home" and your son can enjoy Halloween in his "own neighborhood"! Man, that's going to be a lot of candy! Thank goodness Natasha's school collects the excess candy to give to a good cause! I am not a huge Halloween fan, I like the part where the kids get to dress up but I don't enjoy the candy bit and the constant ringing of the doorbell! I know, I am an old bat!

  2. Super cute little dog image!!! Love the great card!!!
Sounds like Halloween will be lots of fun around your house!! (= My kids usually get way too much candy!!! (=

Well… maybe a bit scary.. hihi, no… it's cute! You are right! 😀 Love this card! The colors are perfect and that background is wonderful this way! Oeh, gosh, that's a lot of candy they were giving out!! Well, maybe just give one piece to each kid and it'll be less? … Ai ai ai, so much candy! You could hand out cards instead maybe? A lot healthier, hi hi!

  11. He's a cute mummy dog Emily and I love how you placed him on the card to show the amazing bkgd too 🙂
    $75 of candy…WOW!
We are not big on Halloween and in fact have no trick or treaters being out in the country…having said that we are growing two huuuuge pumpkins in the allotment!

  12. Funny you should ask… since I picked up a bunch of cheap Hallowe'en stamps at Michaels a few days ago, they've been calling out to me to use them! 😛 This is the most adorable Hallowe'en card ever, and the way you used the punch and the vellum is brilliant.

  13. This card is no reject!!! LOVE IT! I am a Halloween freek my friends tell me cause I love anything and everything about the fun day. Boy did I use to decorate my old home in New Jersey. We had an old porch and I went crazy with the kids doing everything to it. Had a ball. And yes you are going to need all that candy most likely. The one year I had to use some of the kids candy after they stopped at home to hand out. Oh they did NOT like that. But I only used the candy they did not like. Thats not too bad is it??? Thanks for sharing this great card. And good luck and many blessings in your new home. ekc

  14. That is just so crazy that it's a pub reject! It is sooooooooooooo cute! The "Boo" background is super fun…I've never seen that before! Love the little dog (and your coloring–wow!).

Your new neighborhood sounds great! We live in a neighborhood where people drive in to trick-or-treat…it makes the holiday so fun.

  15. EEEK, now that is the cutest Halloween card I've seen to date, lol. How adorable! I love that image. And the background you created is cool. I am so not ready for Halloween yet…lol.

  16. Whoa! that's a lot of candy!! I am super excited cause we are in a new neighbourhood too this year and there are tons of kids despite its still being developed. I LOVE seeing what fun costumes they come to the door with. 🙂

Love the card! That mummy dpg is too freakin cute! LOVE that background too. FAB-U-LOUS!!

  17. Nope, can't believe it was a reject! That mummy dog is too cute! Love the punched borders as a background. I can't imagine buying that much candy–or receiving it!

  18. Halloween is awesome. Too bad I don't need to give away many cards. Such a great idea for the border punch. $75 of candy? goodness. That's more than my yearly consumption…

  19. Is there anyway you could just start a magazine (in all your spare time) and just publish your own fab cards??? LOL! Good luck trying to consume all that candy before the next holiday rolls around…Just kidding! Halloween in your own home will be great this year!

  20. This is THE cutest mummy I have ever seen 🙂 Now if it were only in a rubber stamp form (hint)!! Adorable card- love the punched "Boo" bg and you are so right- I CANNOT believe this was a reject!! Honestly- what were they thinking??
Good luck with the trick-or-treating! When I lived in AK we lived in a neighborhood that took trick or treating very seriously and we went thru buckets of candy. So much fun 🙂

  21. Grin, sorry I missed this one earlier, what fun… My children have never done Halloween (as they don't "do" it in NZ like the US) and my mother has a haunted house and gives away over 2000 pieces of candy every year– can you hear me laughing all the way from Canada?

  22. Ah, what a cute mummy! Love the boo bg, too — what a great use of a border punch!

We get lots of kiddos, but not $100 worth…though with the price differences, maybe they're about equivalent after all…hmm. I'll tally this year and we can compare 😉

  23. Ack! I'm in love with this card!!! First of all, you know my love for this mummy dog and your coloring is just fantastic. Second, that border over the vellum is just fantastic. Third, $100 worth of candy?!?! That's crazy talk!

  24. Amazing card! I can't believe this was rejected?!?! Blows my mind…but, not as much as your coloring. Perfect layout, colors and image. Love it!
