For the month of October, Splitcoaststampers has partnered with the MD Anderson Cancer Center for a Hope You Can Cling To card drive for patients battling breast cancer. All cards made for these challenges will go to the MD Anderson Cancer Center. My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer. It’s always been on the minds of the women in my family so I’m happy to make some cards for this great cause. I thought I would start with the HYCCT02C challenge which is to use brown in the place of my usual staple colour (kraft, haha) and pair it with pink.
I almost didn’t post this card because I’m not completely satisfied with it, even though I can’t pinpoint what it is. Let me tell you how I made it and then you can tell me what you think. I knew I wanted to use one of the leaves (or trees as my son calls them) from Unity’s September KOTM and pair it with the same sentiment I used on my last card. I thought it would be cute to wrap pink twine around the leaf and use felt behind the die-cut panel. I cut the felt piece in half and moved it apart, then adhered it to the paper. I thought I would try letterpressing again to accentuate the beauty of the leaf. I wanted a more subtle impression but my ink pad is a bit curved so it was hard not to get ink on the flat part of the impression plate. I’m not sure if it’ll ever dry! LOL Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions on how to improve this card for next time. 🙂 I’d love to see your cards for Hope You Can Cling To so leave me some links and I’ll hop on by!

I think this is nifty! I especially like the felt mat and twine (surprise, surprise). You know, if you dig the letterpress idea so much, maybe it's time to invest in a little brayer action? You'll still get a little ink on the background, but not as much. But I kinda like the inky look, too!
Well, Ive looked and looked, and I can't find anything wrong with this card… it's very pretty! I'm with Angela — you need a brayer. Just think of the inky, messy fun you could have!
I love the background, the felt, the image, the sentiment, twine…seriously why do you think there is something wrong with it?? I think its pretty as ever 🙂
very neat background. lovely card!
It's absolutely beautiful and I love the distressed look that comes from the ink going on the flat part of the impression plate. Also love pink and brown together and the way the sentiment looks almost ribbon-like too.
