Heehee, what have we here? Poodles and soccer… or footie as they call it in Europe! Since Melissa is also offering a free American football digi (Billy with his ref dog) with any purchase today only, we’re representing football on both continents! The timing couldn’t be more perfect with the 2010 FIFA World Cup going on.

My cards were made with two things in mind, the Canada Day (today) and Independence Day (July 4th) holidays (Happy Birthday to both our countries) as well as my brother-in-law’s birthday in August and my sister’s birthday in September. Both are avid soccer players. My BIL is Glaswegian but since I made him a Celtic FC card last year, I decided to make him a U.S.A. version this year since they’ve made the U.S. their home for more than a decade now. Yes, I know that Canada didn’t (and probably never will, ha) make it into the World Cup and the U.S.A was ousted early on but, alas, I digress.

I’m really not sure why the sentiment on Billy’s card refused to photograph clearly when every other part of it is clear. It’s not smudged or blurry in reality!

I used the maple leaf from a retired Pink Cat Studio rubber stamp to make Lily’s jersey Canadian and I also added crystal effects to the soccer balls to make them glossy and shiny.

Last year, my BIL got a kick out of the ball and grass details on his card. He even asked my sister to stop feeling the soft blades or she’ll wear them out! LOL!!! Well, it’s nice to know that he loved it that much, eh? ;Þ

The black dots behind Lily and the blue stripes behind Billy (a.k.a. the soccer pitch) use PTI background stamps.

The white stars behind Billy (to complete the imagery of an American flag) use the stars from Lily & Billy Accessories.

The layout of these cards was inspired by Maile Belles who has an amazing talent for making beautiful use of negative spaces. The background panels are popped with flat dimensionals after stamping the background, then the focal images are popped with large glue dots.

As always, thanks so much for joining me for this week’s release! If you’re interested in purchasing any of today’s new digis or anything from the Pink Cat Studio digi and rubber stores, you’ll receive Football Billy with his dog free today only. Remember to check out the rest of the DT links on my sidebar for further inspiration! Oh, and I’ll be back later today to announce the winner of my blogoversary candy!! 😉

I also want to wish all my Canadian friends and family a truly wonderful Canada Day holiday today! Remember my card from last year? I still get a kick out of it! I wish you everything that this card embodies. May your day be filled with cuteness, fun and all things Canadian! Today we’re going to a barbeque to celebrate the grand opening of the new headquarters for the company my husband works for. Tomorrow I’m off to my SU demo’s open house to pick up a copy of the new catalog, a free gift and make-and-takes with the new products. I’m extremely excited about that!! What are you up to today and through the long weekend? 🙂

  2. You definitely scored a GOOOOAAAAAAAAL with these cards! I think you may have to give both at the same time because they look so cute together! I love that popped up background panels–adds such a neat dimension while still keeping the card clean. Too much fun!

  3. I am NOT into soccer at all, but your cards are splendid. I love how you used the oval behind the cutout images and the maple leaf on the soccer jersey is the perfect touch!!!
